Man Pleads Guilty to Giant Parking Lot Purse Snatching

Jose Gabriel Rivera-Cabrera knocked down a woman in order to steal her purse in the parking lot of the Lower Saucon Township Giant Food Store in September.

in the parking lot of the Lower Saucon Township on Leithsville Road in September pled guilty to the crime in Northampton County Court Monday, the Express-Times reports.

According to an article published online, Jose Gabriel Rivera-Cabrera of Allentown pled guilty to robbery, receiving stolen property and simple assault, and was sentenced to 17 months to three years in state prison by Judge Leonard Zito, in addition to three years' probation.

Rivera-Cabrera also admitted to stealing an unattended purse at Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township, and currently faces similar charges in Lehigh County.

The newspaper reports that Rivera-Cabrera blamed drug addiction for instigating the Lower Saucon Township incident, in which a woman in her 60s was knocked to the ground as he snatched her bag.
