Man Endangered Welfare of Disabled Child, Police Say

Hellertown police have charged Leo Calon, 44, of Hanover Township, Northampton County, with felony-level endangering the welfare of a child.

A Hanover Township, Northampton County man has been charged with felony-level endangering the welfare of a child, Hellertown police announced Monday.

According to a police department press release, Leo Calon, 44, of the 5900 block of Monocacy Drive, was "acting in (the) capacity of a caregiver to a juvenile male residing in the 1500 block of Burkhart Street in the Borough of Hellertown" when he allegedly "physically abused the child, who was mentally and physically disabled."

Police said the alleged abuse happened on March 6 and March 7 between 6:30am and 5pm.

Calon was charged following an investigation that included interviews with witnesses, police said.

They described the charge against him as "pending court action" in the press release.
