Man Conned Clerk Out of Cash, Police Say

Hellertown Police say an unidentified man recently conned a Rite Aid clerk out of cash. Police are hoping to identify the man.

A con man was able to steal cash from Rite Aid by switching an envelope containing cash with one that contained worthless paper, Hellertown Police say.

According to a police department news release, the man entered the drugstore at 110 Main Street shortly before 3pm on the afternoon of March 6.

Police said the man approached the clerk and said he wanted to exchange money.

While the clerk was counting out cash for the exchange, the man switched the envelope that contained his cash with an identical one that contained paper, according to police.

The man was described as white, 50 to 60 years old, 150 to 165 pounds, and wearing a black baseball cap, a plaid shirt, blue jeans and a brown jacket.

Police said that after committing the scam, he left the store on foot and traveled in an unknown direction.

Police did not say how much money the man is believed to have stolen.
