Man Allegedly Threw Shotgun Out Car Window in Hellertown

Randall Harry Lewis, 54, of Frenchtown, N.J., allegedly threw a stolen double-barreled shotgun out his car window as he was being pursued by a Hellertown police officer on I-78.

According to court records cited in a story by the Express-Times, a Frenchtown, N.J. man was apprehended in Hellertown after burgling a Seneca Street, Bethlehem home July 18--but only after leading police onto I-78, where he allegedly tossed a stolen 12-gauge, double-barreled shotgun and ammunition out his car window.

Randall Harry Lewis, 54, of the 400 block of Harrison Street, was allegedly driving drunk on Route 412 when Officer John Donato noticed that one of his tires was flat and began to follow him.

According to the story, Lewis pulled over as Donato attempted to stop him on the I-78 eastbound on-ramp, but then sped off, continuing onto the highway.

It was while driving at 60mph near mile marker 68 that Lewis allegedly tossed the stolen gun and shells out his car window, before Donato was able to bring the pursuit to an end by blocking him and forcing him to pull over.

Following his arrest, Lewis--who reportedly told police he has prior felony convictions--was arraigned before on charges of burglary, theft, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, possession of a prohibited firearm, fleeing and eluding police, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of an instrument of crime with the intent to use it, reckless endangerment, and numerous other charges, and was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail, according to the article.
