LSPD K-9 Dog, Atos, Injured During Training

Atos, a K-9 member of the Lower Saucon Township Police Department, lost two canine teeth in a training accident that occurred Tuesday in Lehigh Township.

A new four-legged member of the Lower Saucon Township Police Department family was injured during training in Lehigh Township Tuesday, police said in a news release.

According to police, K-9 dog Atos was injured when he "collided with part of a parked tractor trailer with his mouth."

"Atos was bleeding heavily from the mouth and rushed to Valley Central Animal Hospital, where he was cared for by Dr. Ron Hodges [who donated his services]," police said.

Valley Central Animal Hospital is in Whitehall.

Because of the accident, Atos lost his two upper canine teeth, according to the news release, which indicated that police are "currently assessing titanium replacement teeth for Atos and will be consulting with a veterinarian dentist regarding the process to include potential associated costs and prognosis."

In the spring, the police department's former K-9 dog, Brutus, was forced into early retirement because of illness.
