Drunken Driver Nearly Struck Guardrail, Police Say

Driver Cited Following Accident Near Shopping Center

On Jan. 18 at 2:06 p.m. police say officers responded a two-car accident on Route 378 near the Saucon Square shopping center. In a press release, police said it was determined that Robert Vanvliet, 78, of the 4700 block of Pinehurst Circle, Center Valley, rear-ended a vehicle that was operated by Paul Rao III, 44, of the 4600 block of Pinehurst Circle, Center Valley. Vanvliet was cited for "Driving Vehicle at Safe Speed," police said.

Man Arrested for DUI on Easton Road

On Jan. 19 at 2:59am police say Michael Sinclair, of the 100 block of Old Philadelphia Road, Durham, was stopped after police allegedly observed him driving off the side of Easton Road. In a press release, police said Sinclair was also "observed crossing over the yellow lines and back across his lane of travel, leaving the roadway and nearly striking a guardrail." Sinclair was determined to have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 percent and was arrested for DUI, police said.

Women Arrested for Possession of Marijuana

On Jan. 20 at 3:23 a.m. police say Christina Velez, of the 900 block of West Lehigh Street, Bethlehem, and Leslie Stuber, of the 600 block of West Market Street, were in a car that was stopped for equipment violations on Route 378. Subsequently, both women were found to be in possession of marijuana, police said in a press release. Both Velez and Stuber have been charged with possession, authorities added.

Woman Arrested for DUI on Mountain Drive North

On Jan. 26 at 11:05 p.m. police say Patricia Eileen Remmey, of the 200 block of Main Street, Hellertown, was stopped on Mountain Drive North after she allegedly activated her high-beam headlights while an oncoming vehicle was approaching. In a press release, police said an officer detected the odor of alcohol when he approached Remmey, who was deemed incapable of safe driving after field sobriety tests were administered to her. Remmey was taken to the Bethlehem DUI Center, where she reportedly refused further testing. She has been charged with DUI, police said.

Accident Caused By Motorist Who Backed Up on Shoulder, Police Say

On Feb. 1 at 3:53 p.m., police say they responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Easton and Wilhelm roads. In a press release, police said Thomas Peterson, of the 3700 block of Wilhelm Road, admitted fault following the accident. "(Peterson) told officers that he was backing up, on the shoulder, and failed to observe another vehicle, causing the accident," according to the news release. Police said Peterson was charged with Limitations on Backing. There were no injuries reported as a result of the accident, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene, according to authorities.
