Lower Saucon Garage Fire Extinguished

A garage fire on Friedensville Road in Lower Saucon Township was brought under control by about 11pm.

A structure fire reported earlier this evening was under control shortly after 11pm, according to a police officer at the scene.

According to the officer, the structure that burned was a garage adjacent to a small shopping center at 1850 Friedensville Road and the Society Hill residential development in Lower Saucon Township.

Just after 11pm, police still had Friedensville Road blocked off west of Creek Road, which caused a number of Society Hill residents to temporarily park their vehicles in the gravel parking lot next to the .

Those who did so were observed walking up the hill toward the entrance to the development, and a police officer standing in the road near the entrance was asking passers-by if they were returning home to Society Hill

Further down the road, a gaggle of fire engines and other emergency vehicles filled Friedensville Road near the shopping center, their lights still flashing.

The officer stationed near the Society Hill entrance would not allow media closer access to the fire scene, but since the fire had already been extinguished remarked that all that would be visible would be lingering smoke.

By 11:15pm, a state trooper whose cruiser had blocked off Friedensville Road at Creek Road had departed and a Hellertown police vehicle was observed heading back toward the borough.

It was not immediately clear which local fire companies had responded to the emergency, but (Hellertown) and (Lower Saucon) are the two companies closest to the location where the fire occurred.
