Local Police Will Conduct 'Roving Patrols' This Weekend

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the deadliest days on roadways due to impaired driving.

Police in Lower Saucon Township, Hellertown and Freemansburg plan to conduct "roving patrols" this weekend, in response to the increased amount of impaired driving which typically occurs over Super Bowl Weekend.

Super Bowl XLV will be played on Sunday, when the Pittsburgh Steelers battle the Green Bay Packers at 6:30pm.

A public service announcement issued by the Lower Saucon Township Police Department Wednesday cautions anyone who plans to consume alcohol over the weekend to "make sure you have a designated driver in your starting line up."

The announcement also requests that party hosts and local bar owners "take extra good care of designated drivers this year."

According to the Lower Saucon Township Police Department, "Super Bowl Sunday is one of America's biggest and most entertaining national sporting events, and it is one of the nation's most dangerous days on the roadways due to impaired driving."

"Law enforcement will be out protecting us from drivers who are incapable of safe driving due to alcohol or drugs," the LSTPD added. "Remember, real fans don't let fans drive drunk."
