Local Police Announce Checkpoints, Roving Patrols

The Lower Saucon, Hellertown and Freemansburg police departments plan to conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols throughout the remainder of August and September.

The Hellertown, Lower Saucon and Freemansburg police departments plan to conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols of area roads throughout the remainder of August and the month of September, according to a press release issued Aug. 10 by the Lower Saucon Police Department.

The purpose of the initiative, according to the press release, will be "deterring, identifying and apprehending impaired drivers."

DUI or sobriety checkpoints typically involve the stopping of vehicles on public roads by law enforcement officials, in order to determine if drivers are impaired by the use of alcohol or drugs.
