Hunters Causing Problems at Hill Climb, Police Say

After recent confrontations between trespassers and members of the Bushkill Motor Club, which owns the property colloquially known as the Steel City "Hill Climb," Lower Saucon Township Police say discarded roofing nails have been found.

Lower Saucon Township Police announced Thursday that they are investigating recent problems at the Steel City "Hill Climb" that may stem from several confrontations between hunters trespassing on the property and members of the Bushkill Motor Club, which owns it.

In a press release, police said they were most recently dispatched to the club at 2248 Riverside Drive on Jan. 29, for a report of criminal mischief.

However, reports of problems with trespassers date back at least two months, to Dec. 1, when "a hunter was confronted" about trespassing at the Hill Climb, police said.

Police explained that two weeks after that confrontation occurred, "a number of roofing nails were found on the property."

They described the hunter involved in the Dec. 1 confrontation as a white male with a "large build" who stands approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall.

On at least one occasion, a roofing nail caused a dirtbike's tire to go flat, and the nails are also endangering vehicle tires, children and pets that visit the area, police said.

In at least one other instance, roofing nails were found discarded on the Hill Climb property some time after a confrontation between a hunter and club members reportedly occurred, authorities added.

Anyone with information that could relate to the investigation is asked to contact the Lower Saucon Township Police Department at 610-317-6110.

In January, a camo-clad man was arrested for trespassing after allegedly setting up a tree stand on the IESI Bethlehem Landfill property, which is not far from the Hill Climb.
