Hellertown Woman Hurt When Car Hits I-78 Center Barrier, Guardrail

A Hellertown woman was taken to the hospital after a Sunday night crash near the Lehigh Street exit on I-78, state police said.

A Hellertown woman was hurt Sunday night when her car hit the center concrete barrier and far right guardrail of Interstate 78, causing it to cross all three westbound lanes twice.

A state police fax says Denise A. Gillette, 53, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry on westbound I-78 near the Lehigh Street exit in Allentown around 11 p.m. when the car left the roadway. The car was in the far left lane.

Its front left bumper hit the center concrete barrier and went across the three traffic lanes when its right rear quarter panel deflected off the far right guide rail.

The Camry again crossed the three lanes and again hit the concrete barrier with its front bumper. The car came to rest facing south by the barrier, the fax says.

Gillette, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by Cetronia EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of moderate injuries. She was cited for violating the traffic law "roadways laned for traffic," the fax says.
