Hellertown Police Mentor Students Interested in Law Enforcement

Saucon Valley High School students with an interest in law enforcement have a unique opportunity to learn about it firsthand, thanks to the Hellertown Police Department's student mentorship program.

Police Chief Robert Shupp spoke about the program's success at a recent Borough Council meeting, where he introduced the department's current mentee.

Cydney Guito is a Saucon senior who will participate in the mentorship program through early January.

Guito—who spends a couple of hours each weekday shadowing borough police officers—is able to observe and learn about all areas of police work, such as crime scene investigations, interview interrogation and fingerprinting, Shupp said.

In addition, "she gets to see how officers interact with the public," he noted.

Guito told council that her ultimate career goal is to become an FBI agent, and said she plans to study psychology, criminal science and law in college.

"You’re on the right path, that’s for sure," Shupp told Guito.

He added that "it’s nice to see a female be interested in the program. We usually don’t have that happen, and diversity is always good."
