Hellertown Man Victim of Alleged Hit-and-Run Accident

According to court records, a man from Hellertown was driving on Bethlehem's South Side when he was struck by another car operated by Brianna LaPointe, 25, of South Bound Brook, N.J.

A car driven by a New Jersey woman with a suspended license crashed into the back of another vehicle near the Lehigh University campus, fled the scene and drove over Bethlehem's Fahy Bridge, before police stopped her in the city's historic area, according to court records.

The records say Brianna LaPointe, 25, of South Bound Brook drove her Honda Civic into a vehicle driven by a Hellertown man that was stopped for a red light at W. Third and S. New streets around 9:30 Thursday night.

Even though her Civic sustained heavy front-end damage in the accident, police said LaPointe drove away from the scene, driving on the wrong side of W. Third and through the red light as she left.

After allegedly almost hitting another vehicle, police said LaPointe drove north across the Fahy Bridge.

Officer Joshua Schnalzer then spotted the Civic—with its headlights off—as LaPointe drove down Center Street.

Schnalzer stopped the car at E. Market and High streets, the court records said.

LaPointe was later charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property, reckless driving, traffic control signals and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

The complaint did not say why her license was suspended.

She was arraigned at 1:15 Friday morning by District Judge Diane Marakovits and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $2,000 bail.
