Ground Broken for New Leithsville Fire Station

Construction has begun on the construction of a new Leithsville Fire Station, which will serve the residents of the Saucon Valley area.

Se-Wy-Co Fire Company in Lower Saucon Township has announced that ground was broken for a new Leithsville Fire Station on Monday.

Plans for the new station were first unveiled earlier this year.

In a news release, fire company officials said "the new station will be in the same location as the former station," which was destroyed in a fiery May 2012 dump truck accident that left one man dead and another seriously injured.

Along with the former Leithsville Road station, which was built in 1984, all of the vehicles and equipment that were housed there were destroyed.

Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company—which had been an independent entity since its founding in the 1920s—had just completed a state-approved merger with Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. at the time of the accident.

"We are excited to be moving ahead with this phase of the rebuilding process and look forward to the station completion," Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. President Sal Ghazi said in the news release.

The new station, which was designed by KCBA Architects of Hatfield, will be slightly smaller in size than the old one.

Updates on the progress of the construction will be posted on the Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. website: www.sewyco-fc.org. You can also follow progress via the company's Facebook page, where additional photos of the groundbreaking are posted.
