Free Child ID Event Scheduled for Sunday

The Hellertown Police Department will host the event for local families at St. Theresa School on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 10:30am.

In conjunction with the start of 2013 Catholic Schools Week, the Hellertown Police Department will issue free child IDs to local families this Sunday at St. Theresa School, Chief Robert Shupp told Borough Council on Tuesday.

The IDs, which typically feature photos and fingerprints, can be useful to law enforcement authorities in the event that a child goes missing.

"Anybody who has a child, feel free to bring them up," Shupp said of the child ID event, which will begin at 10:30am.

In other business, Shupp said his department's officers have been monitoring the Saucon Rail Trail following a recent complaint by a borough resident about excessive dog feces near the Walnut Street crossing.

He said the resident--Lee Weidner--has reported to him that the situation on the trail seems to be much improved since it was first brought to council's attention earlier this month.

"We’ve been trying to monitor that area as much as we can. So it seems to be pretty effective," Shupp told council.
