Car Got Caught in I-78 Median Cables, Police Say

Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast say Joshua Herring, 19, of Allentown, was eastbound on I-78 in Lower Saucon Township when his car left the roadway and became caught in the highway median's catch cables.

A motorist who was talking on a cell phone drove off Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon Township and into the median barrier that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes, Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast said in a news release.

According to police, Joshua Herring, 19, of Allentown was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander eastbound on I-78 near mile marker 68.6 when his car left the north edge of the roadway and struck the "catch cables" that form a barrier in the center of the median.

The accident occurred April 4 at 12:18 p.m., police said.

"The vehicle struck the catch cables and traveled along them...before coming to final rest with the car caught between the cables," police added.

Police did not indicate whether charges are planned.
