District Warns of Facebook Threat

UPDATE: In a 1pm voice message sent to parents via the SchoolMessenger notificiation service, the school district announced that all after-school activities for and  students are canceled for Friday. In an emailed news alert issued at the same time, the district announced that a recreational swim program scheduled for this evening has also been canceled. remains scheduled as of 2:30pm Friday.

In a news alert emailed to parents of students early Friday afternoon, the district announced the discovery of harrassing messages allegedly posted on personal and student Facebook pages.

"The focus of the messages is directed at a single individual," the district said. "In response, that individual has made a generic threat against those that were messaging, along with a school (related) reference of harm."

The district said it is working with law enforcement officials to address the situation, as well as putting extra security measures in place and contacting the parents of students involved.

All after-school activities are still scheduled, the district announced.

Parents are being encouraged to talk with their children, and to report any threatening or suspicious messages to both police and district officials.

The district did not say which school was the subject of the threat, but announced that it will keep the community updated on the situation.
