Borough Woman Charged With Shoplifting in Bethlehem

Julie Rhea, of East Saucon Street, was charged with felony retail theft following her arrest at a South Bethlehem CVS store Tuesday.

A Hellertown woman was charged with shoplifting in Bethlehem Tuesday after a store security camera allegedly caught her putting candy and a pair of stockings in her purse.

Julie Rhea, 63, of 35 E. Saucon St., was charged with felony retail theft following her arrest at the CVS at 305 W. Fourth St. in Bethlehem Tuesday afternoon.

City police say store employees saw Rhea stick a bag of Hershey's miniatures and a pair of stockings into her purse. Court records say Rhea claimed she had brought the items into the store with her.

Rhea--who police said has been arrested four times previously for retail theft--was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Gay Elwell in Easton.

She was free on $2,500 bail.
