Black Bear Reportedly Sighted in Lower Saucon

Township police say a resident of Bergstresser Drive reported seeing a 300 to 400-pound black bear in his back yard Sunday morning.

If you live in the rural, eastern part of Lower Saucon Township, you might want to reconsider leaving your garbage outside for the time being. That's because there is reportedly a black bear roaming the area.

Township police issued an information bulletin about the bear late Sunday, and indicated that a resident of the 2600 block of Bergstresser Drive reported seeing it in his back yard at about 10:30am Sunday.

Police said the resident estimated the bear's weight at 300 to 400 pounds, and added that he observed it walk off "into the woods towards the ridge."

Police said they advised the homeowner to leave the bear alone and "not to leave garbage outside that could attract the animal."

The PA Fish and Game Commission was notified of the reported sighting, police said.

A check of Long Ridge Drive did not lead to any further bear sightings, and the resident was "thankful for the response," they added.
