I had off the other morning and watched the Mascaro trash truck come and pick up recyclables. The truck is no different than any other trash hauling truck. One big crushable hopper.

I watched as all glass, paper, cans etc. was crushed together in the truck. The neighbor had two 6ft fluorescent light bulbs out, which I did not think went with the recyclables, but, in the truck they went – breaking as the entered the hopper.

How is this sorted and recycled? How is the broken glass removed from paper recycles?
How are the toxic materials from the fluorescent bulbs removed from the recycles?
