Please SPAY YOUR outdoor CAT!

Dear Neighbor,

You know, and I know and they know that your pretty girl got knocked up last winter by that smooth talking silver haired boy on Harris Street. Did you also know that Hellertown has a BIG feral cat problem? It was the dead of winter when the fluffy new arrivals began using my garden as a litter box. And why shouldn't they? I had taken pity on the poor things huddled in the snow, and gave them food so they where not cold AND hungry.

Feral kitties are often mistaken for "good barn cats". Yes, they are good at keeping mice at bay, but they also tend to bring fleas, and disease like rabies and distemper. Our home is thankfully flea free! Unfortunately, my poor dog has taken it upon himself to clean 'feral cat poo' from our garden by sniffing it out and eating it. ugh. Then, of course, he goes through an ugly bout of woozypoos and makes all of our lives uncomfortable for a bit.

The feral kitties in my garden came from your pet. She lives with you, and you feed her. In fact, I like her, she is rather sweet, and pretty to look at. The kitties she birthed are pretty too. But the danger outweighs the cuteness. Aside from the loss of time and money from these kitties wreaking havoc on my garden, and my dog getting sick from eating the kitten poo, there is a risk of spreading rabies, toxoplasmosis, feline AIDS, ringworm, feline leukemia, distemper, and bacterial infections. Not to mention the looming fact that all cats are nymphos and bound the multiply exponentially.

So here is some good news, peppered with a few scary facts; Hellertown has teamed up with the "No Nonsense Neutering Clinic http://www.nnnlv.org/ to combat the feral cat problem in our lovely borough. All those darling kitties who hang at your barn, destroy my garden, and make my dog sick, qualify to be spayed or neutered and given a round of shots to keep them from having and spreading rabies 'FOR FREE'! Yes, that is right, Hellertown Borough will pick up the bill. But you have to catch and take the timid little demons over there yourself. I have already got the ball rolling, the first one went today. I know because I trapped and took it myself, and learned that it likes it when I sing in the car.

The http://www.nnnlv.org/ aka No Nonsense Neutering Clinic wants you to start feeding the kitties in a cage or trap, but NOT trap them right away. Apparently letting them eat from a cage makes it much easier to trap the lot of them comfortably. You will take them on a Tuesday or Friday between 8am and 9am, so they should not be trapped for a week before it is time to go, just close them in the day or night before. When you get there, you have the option of paying $15 for a distemper shot as well, but the spay / neuter, rabies shot and microchip is FREE. You will go back the same day around 4:30 to pick them up and they will have to stay in the crate for a day to recover.

I will help. I will try to make life more comfortable for these unexpected guests, but I DO NOT WANT ANYMORE FERAL CATS! I am attempting to cat-proof my garden. Winter is fast approaching and the little ones are old enough to breed, they should all be fixed (now not later).  But that still leaves to matriarch, the mother of them all, your outdoor cat. With all this is mind, the best course of action is for the mom, your cat, to go on a magical visit to spayville and render her harmless to my garden.
