William Congdon Harding, 87, of Country Meadows, Bethlehem Township, formerly of Lower Saucon Township and Buffalo, N.Y., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of the late Irene (Becker) Harding, who died July 26, 2011. He was born in Buffalo on Feb. 7, 1926 to the late Harold C. and Anna (Congdon) Harding. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Bill was an electrical engineer and Utilities Rate Specialist at the former Bethlehem Steel from 1953 until 1996, retiring after 43 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Bethlehem, where he was treasurer of the church for 16 years and active in its soup kitchen ministry. He was a graduate of Cornell University, Class of 1953, earning a M.S. degree in electrical engineering; an avid collector of model railroad trains; an avid photographer; a life member of IEEE; and Past Chairman of the ELCON State Relations and Communications Committee (1991-1992).
Loving children: James Grant and his wife Sandra Fay of Macungie, Joanne Mary wife of David Charles Gulya of Catasauqua, Elizabeth Irene Harding wife of Keith Merritt O'Connell of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren: Kendell, Jennifer, Brandon, Wendy; great-grandchildren: Max, Vivian, Kira. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. A Memorial Eucharist Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 44 E. Market St., Bethlehem. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn, Buffalo, N.Y.
