Obituary: William R. Ohl, 91, Formerly of Bethlehem

William R. Ohl, 91, formerly of William Street, Bethlehem, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012.

William R. Ohl, 91, formerly of William Street, Bethlehem, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was born in Bethlehem on Sept. 21, 1920 to the late Sophia (Hahn) and William H. Ohl Sr.  Bill worked for 43 years and until retirement at Bethlehem Steel in the Rolling Mills. With the inauguration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt on March 4, 1933, the federal government formed the economic emergency Works Progress Administration (WPA) in Washington, D.C., which is where William worked during WWII. He was a member of the Hellertown Democratic Club and various social organizations. William was very proud of his land, enjoying the deer that he fed. He continued to farm his land and welcomed visitors who enjoyed his spring water.

Survivors:

Daughters: Roberta J. Ohl and her son Joshua W. Hitchings, with whom he resided, and Sharon Bedics and her son William D. Krause of Bethlehem. He was predeceased by a brother: Warren; and sisters: Dorothy Buss, Evelyn Johnson and Marion Hollowell.

Service:

Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 10am Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at the , 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 10am. The interment will conclude services at . Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com
