Obituary: Ruth E. (Leith) Benzak, 89, of Upper Saucon

Ruth E. (Leith) Benzak, 89, of Upper Saucon Township died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. She was born in Fountain Hill on Oct. 16, 1922 to the late Andrew C. and Violet (Swartz) Leith. She was the wife of the late Joseph W. Benzak Sr., who died on Sept. 1, 2005.

Ruth was a member of of Lower Saucon Township, where she was the former superintendent of the Sunday school, a choir member, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Altar Guild.

She was a member of the where she taught craft classes. She was also a former Girl Scout leader and a life member of the .

Children: Joseph W. Jr. and his wife Jane of Timberlake, N.C., David J. and his companion Judy Gibson of Bethlehem, and Kathryn R. wife of George Pinkey of Hometown; half sister: Arlene Laub of Philadelphia; stepsister: Catherine Wimmer of New York; grandchildren: Tonya Ruswieler of Hamburg, Jodie Johnson of Bethlehem, Vicki Benson of Wycombe, Elizabeth Ann Pinkey wife of Stephen A. Behun III of Tamaqua, and Joseph A. Pinkey of Hometown; great-grandchildren: Amber and Emma Benson, Zachary Johnson, Stephen A. Behun IV, and William G. Behun and Kathryn E. Behun.

Service:

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11am Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at the church, 3233 Apples Church Road, Bethlehem, followed by the service at 11am with the Rev. Tricia A.
