Obituary: James D. Pierce, 81

James D. Pierce, of Hellertown, died on Dec. 5, 2011. He was a draftsman at Bethlehem Steel for 40 years and served his country honorably in the Air Force.

James D. Pierce, 81, of Hellertown, died Dec. 5, 2011. He was the loving husband of Mary (Roebuck) Pierce. They were married 60 years this past June.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Howard and Neva (Beitzel) Pierce. He served his country honorably in the Air Force. He was a draftsman at the former Bethlehem Steel for 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bethlehem, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion, Post #397, both of Hellertown; and the MORA of Bethlehem. He was also an actor at the Pennsylvania Playhouse. He especially enjoyed flying, telling jokes and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving with his wife are: a son, David Pierce, and his wife, Lauri, of Bath; and a daughter, Susan Pierce, of Verona, Pa., and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, 3235 Linden Street, Bethlehem, Pa. Friends may call from 10 to 11am at the church. The , Hellertown, is in charge of arrangements.
