Obituary: Irene Sraj, 98, Formerly of Bethlehem Township

Irene Sraj, 98, of Glen Riddle and formerly of Bethlehem Township, died Saturday, March 31, 2012.

Irene Sraj, 98, of Glen Riddle, formerly of Bethlehem Township, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Taylor Hospice, Ridley Park. She was the wife of the late John Sraj, who died in February 1970. She was born in Bethlehem on Oct. 12, 1913 to the late Andrew Sr. and Julia (Csulik) Makuvek. Irene lived in her home in Bethlehem Township for 95 years. During that time, she served on various committees and was past president of the PTA of Miller Heights School, past president of Miller Heights Fire Company Women’s Association, and past president of the Women’s Guild of First Hungarian Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, where she and her husband were founding members and where she taught Sunday School. She was also past president of the Women’s Association of the Independent Citizens Club of Miller Heights. Mrs. Sraj was the housekeeper for Dr. Deming Lewis, president of Lehigh University, until his retirement. She loved to bake, especially Hungarian pastries. Her hobbies were collecting dolls and fine porcelain figurines. Before her marriage, she loved to participate in Hungarian plays and she loved music and dancing well into her 90s. She was devoted to her family, especially her two grandchildren. 

Survivors:

Loving daughter: Susan I. wife of John K. Masters of Glen Riddle; grandchildren: Andrea and her husband Samuel Casillas of Pacifica, Calif. and Guy Masters of Downingtown. She was predeceased by brothers: John, Andrew Jr., Stephen and sisters: Helen Pottschacher and Julia Sedlock.

Service:

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11am Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the , 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11am. The interment will conclude services at . Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
