Obituary: Eugene E. Wilkins, 92, Formerly of Hellertown

Eugene E. Wilkins, 92, of Allentown and formerly of Hellertown, died Thursday, April 12, 2012.

Eugene E. Wilkins, 92, of Allentown, and formerly of Hellertown, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Finnigan) Wilkins. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on July 14, 1919 to the late Lester and Frieda (Ernst) Wilkins. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a crane operator for the Bethlehem Fabricators for many years until his retirement, and the former Luria Steel Co. in the same capacity. He was a faithful member of the , Hellertown where he performed numerous jobs for the church; Knights of Columbus-Trinity Council; VFW Post 3094, Hellertown; and the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397. Gene volunteered at the soup kitchen at New Bethany Ministries. He was in the Forestry Unit of the CCCs in Idaho during the Depression.

Survivors:

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years; children: Ruth F. Fatzinger (Alden) of New Tripoli, Susan M. Barnhart (John) with whom he resided, Eugene E. Wilkins (Bonnie) of Hellertown, Kathryn I. Werst (Scott) of Emmaus, George T. Wilkins (Pamela) of Macungie; sister: Elizabeth Smith in N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Service:

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 7:30pm Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the , 326 Main St., Hellertown. The service will be at 9:30am Monday at the funeral home and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at the church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown.
