Obituary: Elmer James Brown, 95, of Hellertown

Elmer James Brown, 95, of Hellertown, died Friday, June 8, 2012.

Elmer James Brown, 95, of , Hellertown, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary (Kovacs) Brown. Elmer was born in Hellertown on Feb. 12, 1917 to the late Wye J. Brown and Stella (Weaver) Brown. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII in two campaigns. Elmer worked at the former Bethlehem Steel as a crane operator/welder, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service. He was a member of , Hellertown, Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, , Hellertown Democratic Club, and a former Coach of the Hellertown Little League. He was inducted into the Northampton County American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and was a player for the Hellertown Legion in 1932, 1933 and 1934.

Survivors:

Children: Glenn R. and his wife Ann L. Brown of Bethlehem, Lucy E. wife of Ken W. Smith of Westford, Mass.; grandchildren: Matt Brown, Andrea Descheemaeker, Travis Smith and Jeffrey Smith; great-grandchildren: Owen and August Descheemaeker and Quinton Brown. He was predeceased by brothers Joe, Paul, Robert, Alfred, Charles and Leon; and sisters: Mae, Charlotte and Eileen.

Service:

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11am Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the , 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11am.
