Obituary: Deacon Bernard M. Wisser, 80, of Hellertown

Deacon Bernard M. Wisser, 80, of Hellertown, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012.

Deacon Bernard M. Wisser, 80, of Saucon Manor Apartments, Hellertown, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at the VNA Hospice House of St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Township, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Marian H. (Hampton) Wisser who died Dec. 27, 2007. He was born in Fountain Hill on Aug. 6, 1932. He was the son of the late Bernard P. and Isabel (Martin) Wisser. Bernie was the co-owner, with his late wife, of the former Wisser's Flowers, Lower Saucon Township, for many years until his retirement. He served honorably in Germany during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Deacon Bernie was a faithful member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bethlehem. He was ordained as a deacon in 1990. He was assigned to the Catholic Social Agency and Church of the Assumption of the BVM, Bethlehem. In addition to serving as Assistant Spiritual Director from 1990 to 1994, he served on many Cursillo Teams, Catholic Marriage Preparation and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at the church. He was also a member of the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Hellertown. 

SURVIVORS

Loving children: Dawn A. Adams of Lompoc, Calif., Eric M. and his wife Nancy of Nazareth, Scott M. and his wife Laura of Kempton, Michelle N. wife of Timothy Barndt of Bethlehem; grandchildren: Christopher and Robert Adams, Jonas Wisser, Cameron Wisser and his wife Jenna, Tiffany wife of Eric Smith, Matthew Barndt and Nolan Wisser. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Robert J. Adams Sr.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 8:45 to 10:30am Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at the church, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, Bethlehem. The calling hour will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. The interment will be private at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
