Mildred W. Vrabel Cahn, 76, Helped Break Glass Ceiling at Bethlehem Steel

Mildred W. Vrabel Cahn, 76, of Nazareth, formerly of Springtown, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at Moravian Hall Square.

Mildred W. Vrabel Cahn, 76, of Nazareth, formerly of Springtown, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at Moravian Hall Square. She was the wife of the late Harry F. Cahn, who died Nov. 23, 2012. She was born in Lower Saucon Township on Aug. 31, 1937 to the late Stephen J. Sr. and Arlene C. (Koch) Wentzel. She was a graduate of Hellertown High School, Class of 1955. She was employed by Bethlehem Steel in 1955 in the sales department and was transferred to general services in 1957 as a stenographer. In 1961, she joined the law department as a secretary, and was transferred to the executive offices of the corporation in 1970. In June 1974 she was promoted to become the first female to hold the position of assistant secretary of the corporation, a board position. Following retirement, she was a legal secretary for the law firm of Fitzpatrick, Lentz and Bubba. Mildred was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Springtown, and the Bethlehem Garden Club.

SURVIVORS

She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings: Stephen J. Wentzel Jr. of Center Valley; Betty Jane Littlefield of Bethlehem; Shirley J. Ebert of Chesapeake, Va.; Sandra E. Kirka of Hellertown; Kathryn E. Griffiths of Hellertown; Debra J. Rodenbach of Hellertown; and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com. Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown.
