Donald L. Hunsinger, 81, of Lower Saucon [Obituary]

Donald L. Hunsinger died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013.

Donald L. Hunsinger, 81, of Lower Saucon Township died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Elaine B. (Apple) Hunsinger, his high school sweetheart. He was born in Ringtown on May 1, 1932 to the late Lawrence M. Hunsinger and Violet Irene (Bankes) Maioriello. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in the 7th Army Special Services as a drummer in Germany. Mr. Hunsinger was the founder of and a partner in Westgate Transportation Inc., Bethlehem, for 14 years, and was the founder, president and National Account Manager of Manufactured Transportation Equipment, Roadway Express Inc., Allentown. He was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown, where he served as Eucharistic Minister, past Council President for five years, as a trustee, on its council for 18 years, and on various ministry teams. He was a member of the church's Praise Band and a professional musician for 25 years. Don graduated from Liberty High School in 1951 and had served as class reunion chairman. He attended Moravian Prep, Moravian College and College of Advanced Traffic. He was a member of the Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Dewey Fire Co., and a charter member of the Jaycees, all of Hellertown. He was a past President of the Hellertown Lions Club from 1984-1985; Rajah Temple, Reading; Shriner’s International, 32 degree; Lehigh Valley Consistory of Allentown; H. Stanley Goodwin Lodge 648, F & AM; Airport Transportation Committee; Traffic Club of the Lehigh Valley; Council of Logistics Management; and the Association of Transportation Practitioners. He had also served on the Hellertown Borough Authority board. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Detroit Lions. 

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife of 60 years; daughter: Donna K. wife of Robert J. Nagy of Hellertown and their sons: Christopher and Kyle; many nieces and nephews.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main St., Hellertown. The Tuesday morning calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Philip C. Spohn will officiate the service.
