Hellertown Lower Saucon Chamber Seeking Applicants for $1,000 Scholarship

The H/LS Chamber is seeking applications from high school seniors, to be awarded their $1,000 Scholarship. The winner will have leadership skills and proven service to their community.

The Hellertown Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce (HLSCC), partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, is seeking applicants for their annual Phyllis M. Schnaible Merit Award.

The scholarship is open to any high school senior who resides in the Saucon Valley School District and will graduate in 2013 from either Saucon Valley High School or any non-public school. The student must also be accepted to a post-secondary school for this fall semester.

The deadline for receiving applications is April 1, 2013.

The recipient must:

  • Have a B+ or 85 percent grade point average or better
  • Display leadership skills
  • Be a good communicator
  • Be active in extracurricular or community service activities

Interested students must submit a persuasive essay of not less than 150 words
and no more than 200 words on why they are worthy of the award, with special attention focused on the abovementioned points of interest.

The Hellertown Lower Saucon Chamber Merit award is a $1,000 scholarship and is dedicated in memory of Phyllis M. Schnaible. Phyllis was a board member of the chamber and actively part of the Merit Award Committee. For eleven years, she served as Executive Director of the Saucon Valley Community Center where she managed ‘FORE and AFT’ programs which encouraged youths to make constructive use of their time while bridging the gap for working families whose children would otherwise be unsupervised.

If chosen, the student is expected to attend the Annual HLSC Banquet to be held Friday, May 31, to accept the scholarship money.

The essay should be typed and mailed/emailed to Mary Himmelberger at:

GLVCC - 840 Hamilton St., Suite 205, Allentown PA 18101
