April's Cash Mob Announced; Lost River Caverns Offers Appreciation for Local Support

Hellertown's Second Cash Mob is scheduled for April 17; Lost River Caverns expresses its appreciation for the support it received at the last one.

The Hellertown Borough Business Revitalization Program (BBRP) coordinated the borough’s first ever cash mob back on Black Friday. The surprise destination, to those attending (and to the owners as well), was the gift shop at Lost River Caverns. A dozen people “mobbed” the Caverns' souvenir store that day and everyone spent at least $10.

The people from the community who attended were all more than enthusiastic to do this again--to find another small, local business to surprise. It was a fun, simple, and inexpensive way to show their support for local business. Not only did they spend money locally, but they also met and talked with the owners as well.

In a thank you letter to the BBRP, Lost River Caverns’ owners Robert Gilman and Beverly Rosewicz wrote…

A big THANK YOU for your hard work and caring in organizing and bringing a CASH MOB to our business. In these harsh economic times, all community support and business is very welcome. As we are sure you have heard from many small businesses, we are all experiencing punishing financial conditions because of the recession.

The Cash Mob certainly did help our finances that day and provided a bright spot in the week. It was a nice surprise and a fun event. I hope the publicity of the event helps raise awareness and continues to encourage the “shop small, shop local” message. Again, many thanks for all your efforts.

The BBRP is excited to announce the upcoming date for our Second Cash Mob. Please help us spread the word and share this on Facebook--join the mob movement!

NEXT CASH MOB: Wed. April 17, 2013 at 4:30pm

Expect to spend a minimum of $10.

Meet at the intersection of Main Street and Thomas Avenue (by the 7-Eleven) in Hellertown. We will walk to the “secret” business from there!

A Cash Mob is a recent trend whereby members of a community come together to shop in a locally-owned establishment to demonstrate their support for small business. The “destination” remains a secret (often even to the owners themselves) until arrival at the business (which has been pre-chosen by the organizers of the mob). Everyone in the “mob” travels together to the location and is expected to spend a minimum amount of money.

The BBRP was established in 2005 as a regional Main Street Program, a partnership between the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber Foundation, both Lehigh and Northampton counties, the PA DCED, and the participating boroughs--of which Hellertown is one.
