Upcoming Events Will Highlight Pediatric Cancer Fight

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, and in honor of that the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) will hold its fourth annual Color My World Gala on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown.

This year’s gala will feature a silent auction (including items such as a trip to Disney World) and food donated by of Hellertown.

A highlight of the night will be a live auction of artwork created by children battling pediatric cancer. Jason Houser of Houser Auctioneers and Samantha Layne of 99.9 The Hawk will donate their talents as auctioneer and emcee, respectively.

Four original pieces of art will also be auctioned online--one per week throughout the month of September.

In addition, the artwork the children have created will be made into notecards which can be purchased at the gala, as well as during “Dining for a Difference,” which will be held from Sept. 10-22 at Grille 3501 in Allentown.

From Sept. 10-22, when restaurant patrons purchase a set of notecards from their server for $10, 15 percent of their check (and 50 percent on Sept. 10 only) will be donated to PCFLV in honor of pediatric cancer awareness month.

Tickets for the Sept. 6 gala are $55 and can be purchased online at www.pcflv.org.

SOME FACTS ABOUT PEDIATRIC CANCER:

• More than 12,400 children (in the United States) are diagnosed with cancer each year. That's a classroom full of children every single day!
• Currently, one in every 330 children in the U.S. develops cancer before the age of 19. The incidence of cancer among children is increasing. 
• About 4,000 children die from cancer each year. That's 11 children every single day, every single year.
