A regional trail system in upper Bucks County could ultimately connect with the popular Saucon Rail Trail in Northampton and Lehigh counties, according to a Morning Call article.

The proposed trail's 14.8-mile northern route would extend the Saucon Rail Trail from Upper Saucon Township south through Springfield, Richland, East Rockhill townships and Quakertown, while a proposed southern route would traverse upper Bucks County from Milford Township in the west to Nockamixon State Park in the east, the story indicated.

The Saucon Rail Trail, which opened in May 2011, stretches from Hellertown borough in the north to the Upper Saucon Township-Coopersburg border at Southern Lehigh Living Memorial Park in the South.

More information about the rail trail is available via its websiteand a Facebook page.

Trailhead access points are located at Water Street Park and W. Walnut Street in Hellertown, Reading Drive in Lower Saucon Township, Upper Saucon Township Community Park, Station Avenue in Center Valley and So. Lehigh Living Memorial Park.
