Lower Saucon Resident Winner of ATHENA Award

A Lower Saucon Township resident will be the recipient of a prestigious award presented by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce's Women's Business Council.

Anne Baum will receive the 2013 ATHENA Award during the 30th Anniversary ATHENA Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, the chamber recently announced.

"The ATHENA Award honors individuals who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession; who provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and who actively assist other women in realizing their full leadership potential," a press release about the award said.

Baum, who is vice president of Lehigh Valley for Capital BlueCross, has had a 13-year affiliation with the GLVCC, "having served as the chair of the Board of Governors as well as the current chair (and a founding member) of the Chamber’s Foundation," it said. "She was previously the chair of the Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce. She has also been a frequent presenter at WBC luncheons and programs, sharing her expertise on presenting oneself in a professional manner."

Her other volunteer activities have ranged from being a board member on the Minsi Trails Boy Scout Council (2008-2010) and the Saucon Valley Foundation for Educational Innovation (2008-2010), to being an active fundraiser for the Casa Guadalupe Capital Campaign and St. Luke’s Hospital Charity Ball. 

She was also a board member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the former board chair of the YWCA of Bethlehem, the press release indicated.

Baum is currently serving her first term as board member-at-large for Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, and serves on their Board Development Committee, which is an elected position, as well as their Fund Development Committee.

The cost to attend the Oct. 15 ATHENA award ceremony, which will begin at 5 p.m., is $50 for chamber members.
