IESI Has 'Hoodwinked' L. Saucon Residents: Letter to the Editor

Lee Weidner of Hellertown says many Lower Saucon Township residents have been 'hoodwinked' by IESI Bethlehem Landfill, which is seeking permission to expand its facility along Applebutter Road in the township.

To the editor:

Confucius said, "Faced with what is right, to leave it undone shows a lack of courage." Confucius was not confused, as are many Lower Saucon Township residents. Once a gas station attendant challenged seven-year-old me to a quarter flip by saying, "Heads I win; tails you lose." After 10 flips, I could not figure out how he always won.

Sam Donato has hoodwinked many residents by using the same con-game on behalf of IESI Bethlehem Landfill, which wants to rezone a section of the township by using township council as its coin. It appears that council is displaying a lack of courage and common environmental sense.

As a school of hungry fish, most of council have taken Donato's bait, hook, bottom-line and stinker. Pardon me, but Donato's public presentations have been so dramatic that, if they were fully televised, he'd have been nominated for an Emmy. It's been a grand soap opera being acted out in Lower Saucon Township, and the cast are mainly villains. When they vote in November, residents need to cast out at least one of them, since a couple council members are leaving undone what is right. IESI is anything but a good neighbor.
