Hellertown Historical Society Plans Holiday Events

The Hellertown Historical Society will be a gathering place for holiday cheer again this year. Highlights of the season will be the society's Holiday Open House on Dec. 6-7 and 'Holiday Shopping at the Mill' on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Hellertown Historical Society will again be a gathering place for holiday cheer this year.

Due to popular demand, HHS president Stacie Torkos said the society's annual Holiday Open House—which will feature live musical entertainment provided by the Lehigh Valley Idols—has been expanded to two consecutive nights.

The open house is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m., and will include light refreshments, tours of the historic Heller-Wagner Grist Mill, a vintage toy train display and more.

The event is free to attend and open to the public, but donations to help defray costs will be accepted.

Free parking will be available outside the grist mill's Tavern Room entrance, in the upper lot next to the Miller's House, and across Walnut Street.

On Sunday, Dec. 15 at noon, the HHS will host "Holiday Shopping at the Mill" featuring last minute gift ideas from vendors such as Tastefully Simple, Mary Kay Cosmetics and the society's own gift store.

While parents or grandparents are shopping, children will be able to visit with Santa Claus in the room next to the Tavern Room.

Santa—as well as his antique sleigh—will be available for photos (for a minimal donation) and will be offering surprises.

Attendees will enjoy light refreshments, music, holiday decorations and a Vintage Toy Train Display featuring replica-scale Hellertown buildings in the basement of the nearby Miller House.

The train display will also be open Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., Dec. 8-22.

The Hellertown Historical Society complex—which includes the historic Heller-Wagner Grist Mill—is located at 150 W. Walnut St., Hellertown.
