Letter: Opponents Misleading Voters, Candidate Reilly Says

The following Letter to the Editor is from Jeanne Reilly, who is a candidate for Saucon Valley School Board in Tuesday's election. She said her opponents' campaign mailings contain lies about her.

Letter to the Editor,

My name is Jeanne Reilly and I am running for a seat on the Saucon Valley School Board. This letter is intended to clarify information that The Meadows School Board Team has claimed about me in their mailings and advertisements. What they have claimed is simply not true. I do not believe that this community wants to elect school directors who mislead and rely on inflammatory rhetoric instead of presenting plans and ideas for the future of our schools.

The following misstatements are from a Meadows School Board Team mailing:

Lie Number 1: Jeanne Reilly is a “Member of the Teachers Union.” Quite simply, this is not true. I am not a member of any union. I am not employed as a teacher.

Lie Number 2: “She would be privy to all the Board’s negotiating strategies.” This is misleading and inaccurate. I will not be privy to any negotiating strategies because I will recuse myself from all discussion and votes regarding the contract with the Saucon Valley Teachers Union. Point of fact, I am required to do so.

Yes, my husband is a teacher at Saucon Valley. He is also a graduate of Saucon Valley. As are his parents, sister, grandparents, aunts and uncles. His family has very strong ties to this community and we chose to move here in part because of that. My son will graduate exactly 100 years after his great grandfather, Leo Stern, began his school career in Hellertown. I care deeply about the quality of our schools. I care because we are a part of this community and strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand. I am running for this reason. I take great offense at the idea that my motivation is my husband’s job. That is simply not true.

I hope you are voting this Tuesday.  Read my profile on the Patch to learn more about me, my dedication to this community and my opinions on the issues. I hope you will make an informed decision and not be swayed by lies and misinformation.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Reilly
