A Lower Saucon Township man has created an online petition requesting that the Bangor Police Department bring charges against Kyle Luckey, an 18-year-old who some witnesses allege intentionally dragged his 10-week-old puppy, Beretta, through Roseto and Bangor while she was attached to the back of a pick-up truck.

In the petition, which is hosted by the website Change.org, Schade says "there is NO EXCUSE for dragging a 10 week old puppy from the back of a pick up."

"Kyle Luckey claims it was an accident," he adds. "The 10 week old puppy would not be able to attach its own leash to the hitch of the pickup."

As of Saturday, charges against Luckey have not been filed, but Northampton County Assistant District Attorney Terry Houck stated that an investigation is ongoing, according to a story published by the Express-Times.

In an earlier story published by the newspaper, Luckey stated that the dragging happened accidentally when he was rushing to get to work and did not realize that the puppy's leash had become caught on the truck.

As of 9:45am Saturday, 183 people had signed Schade's petition, with many posting angry comments related to the story.

"This is a despicable act," wrote Mary Perry. "He must be charged, I only hope (the) judge can try to understand the pain this poor puppy suffered!"

Another signer of the petition, Heather Hunsicker, wrote: "I have a puppy and I would know if she was tied to the back of my car and dragged behind....how the hell could you not. Especially with kids yelling at your car and you speed up.... guilty!!"
