Snow Fooling: White Stuff on the Way

Winter Storm Warning in effect but local forecasters say Lehigh Valley will be spared the brunt.

"Snow is on the way."

Most folks would believe that statement to be nothing more than a cruel early April Fool's Day joke.

But, it's not.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 10pm tonight through noon Friday for all of the Lehigh Valley, southern areas of the Poconos and counties in the far northwestern corner of New Jersey.

How much of the April Fool's Day white stuff we will get is still up for debate.

Although the winter storm warning itself is for 5 to 10 inches of heavy snow, the National Weather Service forecast for Northampton County calls for today's rain to begin mixing with snow at around 2am Friday, continue to mix for several hours, and then change to all snow at around 5am. The forecast prediction is for an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches overnight, plus an additional one to three inches Friday, before the storm moves into New England.

Meanwhile, local forecasters on WFMZ-TV said this morning that the Lehigh Valley can expect anywhere from two to four inches of wet snow overnight, before the storm moves out quickly Friday morning.

The southern areas of the Poconos are not expected to be spared, however, with forecasters predicting anywhere from six inches to a foot of snow overnight into Friday.

The good news? Temperatures are expected to return to near normal levels--which are in the low to mid 50s at this time of year--Sunday.
