Route 33 Project to End in September

A $2.4 million project to improve a portion of Route 33 in Northampton County began yesterday.

A $2.4 million project to improve a portion of Route 33 in Northampton County got underway July 12, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. 

The project includes roadway resurfacing, bridge maintenance and new pavement marking on Route 33 north and south between the Belfast exit and just south of Route 22, the release stated.

The work will be done during weeknights--Monday through Thursday--from 7pm to 6am, and is expected to be completed by September.

The section of Route 33 being worked on passes through Stockertown and Bethlehem, in addition to the townships of Lower Nazareth, Bushkill and Palmer.

PennDOT urges motorists to use caution and to “allow for extra time traveling through the area.”

Updates will be made available when traffic patterns change, according to the release. 

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Pa. is the general contractor on the $2,437,967 project.
