Theft of 178 Redbox Movies, Games Top Local News

The arrest of a retail shop assistant manager for theft and a discussion about hiring an armed officer to patrol Saucon Valley schools also made the headlines this week.

Lower Saucon Township Police announced that Brandon Meyers of Hellertown was charged with theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing 178 games and Blu-Ray movies from the Redbox rental kiosk in the Giant Food Store, 1880 Leithsville Road.

Nina Maria Magan, 22, of the 2100 block of Schwab Avenue in the Steel City section of Lower Saucon Township, was charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing more than $2,300 from the Under Armour store in The Shoppes at Sands in Bethlehem.

Resident Opposes School District Proposal to Hire Armed Officer

In a letter to the editor, Hellertown resident Dennis Scholl said he opposes a Saucon Valley School District proposal to spend more than $125,000 on hiring an armed officer as a school security measure.

Lower Saucon Township Police said a 14-year-old girl from Hellertown was injured and hospitalized following the fiery Jan. 19 accident on Apple Street.

Library Services Discussion Planned at Next Township Council Meeting
