Man Had Open Beer Can in Car, Police Say

A Freemansburg man had an open container of beer while he was a passenger in a car on Route 378, Lower Saucon Township Police say.

Lower Saucon Township Police say a Freemansburg man was charged with an open container violation, after he was allegedly caught with an open beer while he was a passenger in another man's car.

Police said Carmelo Marrero, of the 300 block of South Oak Street, "admitted to and showed the open container" when police stopped the vehicle he was riding in on Route 378 South.

Police said officers learned of the possibility of an open container violation from another motorist, who reported seeing Marrero and the driver of the car remove two cans of beer from a case as they left a local distributor shortly on June 12.

According to a police news release, the passing motorist saw the men remove the cans just prior to getting into their car, and then saw Marrero opening a can.

"The driver was determined not to have had any alcohol," police said.
