Brownies Bring Aid to Hurricane Sandy Victims

Local Brownies help victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York.

Saucon Valley Brownie Troop #8523 recently visited Breezy Point, Queens, N.Y., parts of which were devastated by Hurricane Sandy last year.

Troop leaders Ms. Robin and Ms. Angel reported that the trip was funded by cookie sale proceeds.

"The girls planned on bringing emergency kits along, which included flashlights, batteries, hand sanitizer, first aid kits, tissues, wet wipes, candles, matches, etc.  Each prepared a few kits," the leaders said in an email. "The girls then prepared lemonade and baked brownies...to hand out to any construction workers and homeowners we ran into as we strolled up and down the walks."

"We heard many wonderful and sad stories from the community," they added. "We saw houses that were burned. We saw just pieces of property where there was no house anymore. And much more.

Robin and Angel said the community service on behalf of New Yorkers in need was "a great experience for our troop."

"Troop #8523 will be forever grateful!" they added.
