Photos of the Day: Brickote at Work in Easton

The 73-year-old Lower Saucon company is currently renovating a building facade in Downtown Easton.

Patch's camera crew caught up with workers from Lower Saucon construction company Brickote Aug. 17, as they began stuccoing an aged brick wall in Easton's historic Downtown district.

The first part of the job entails being able to reach the work, so site foreman Rich Ziegler, of Hellertown, along with Ron Dotterer and Dan Kaufman of Bethlehem, spent the day erecting scaffolding that will allow workers to reach the very top of the three-and-a-half story wall.

Despite a national unemployment rate of nearly 9.2 percent, and a local unemployment rate of 8.7 percent, Brickote is holding its own in a still-sluggish economy, third-generation owner and Hellertown native Tom Polak said.

“We're hanging in there. We're working month to month,” Polak said. “It seems to be picking up though.”

The current job in Easton is an average size one for the company, he said.

Weather permitting and allowing for curing time, the project is expected to be complete in about a week, Ziegler said.
