At their Tuesday meeting, members of the Hellertown Planning Commission will hear a proposal from an applicant who wants to open a Papa John's pizza shop at 1236 Main St.

The property where the business would be located is in a mixed zoning district near the intersection of Main and Ackerman streets.

Other nearby retail establishments include CVS, Doggy Dao and Cat's Meow, and Saucon Valley Music.

In a February poll published on Patch, more than 80 percent of respondents said they did not want Papa John's to open in Hellertown.

Many cited the number of pizza places that are already open in the borough in objecting to the proposal.

"The last thing Hellertown needs is another pizza place, let alone a bad chain pizza place," wrote Marc Kovacs.

Reader Perry Costello agreed, asking "What are there, 5 or 6 pizza places here? All of them are far better than any chain pie."

The planning commission will meet at 7 p.m. at Hellertown Borough Hall.
