4 Easy Ways To Eat Less This Thanksgiving

This blog offers some simple tips that will keep your appetite under control this Thanksgiving.

“I feel like I'm going to explode.” It’s a safe bet that we’ve all heard this mantra muttered by someone who has passed out on the couch after a hearty Thanksgiving meal. For a lot of people the holiday season means extra pounds, but it does not have to be that way. Below are some simple tips to keep your eating under control this Thanksgiving.

  1. Use a smaller plate. By using a smaller plate, you can trick your brain into thinking you've consumed more food than you actually have. Research has shown this simple trick can cut calories by as much as 20%.

  2. Do not serve food from the dining table. Research has shown when food remains right in front of you on the table you are more likely to take seconds (and thirds).

  • Take your time. Leptin is a hormone that tells your brain that you have consumed enough food. The problem is leptin is always late, by about 20 minutes. Take your time—let leptin do its job and you will consume less calories.

  • Drink water. People are often focused on the calories contained in the food they eat—but give no consideration to the calories contained in their beverage. Consuming soda and/or alcoholic beverages can add on quite a few additional calories.
