What Happens April 12 in Lower Saucon Affects Everyone

The Saucon Valley Library Task Force will present its findings and invite public comment about library services on Thursday, April 12 at 7pm in the Saucon Valley High School cafeteria.

Residents of Lower Saucon will have their opportunity to speak out about at 7pm at .

The future of the township’s library services is being decided by officials who hope to save money by switching to . Lower Saucon residents will have the chance to let the task force know if they want to lose bookmobile service, an exclusive collection of free, downloadable eBooks, access to more than 500 programs a year, and free online resources such as language courses, genealogy research, career guidance, business and investment information, and legal forms.

The minutes of the Saucon Valley Library Task Force posted on the Lower Saucon Township website reveal the committee’s focus on expanding Hellertown’s library. , has developed with Lower Saucon funds. Those scenarios will be presented at the April 12 meeting.

The Saucon Valley Library Task Force is made up of three representatives each from Lower Saucon Township and . The director and two board members from the Hellertown library are also on the committee. Bethlehem Area Public Library (BAPL) staff was not included on the task force. .

If Lower Saucon officials decide to contract with Hellertown’s library, ongoing maintenance, staffing, technology and library material bills will be shared by the two communities. BAPL currently has five member communities.

Circulation figures are a library’s bottom line. as . Last year, 238,470 individuals walked through BAPL’s doors compared with .

The meeting is scheduled for April 12 at 7pm in the cafeteria, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.

Attendees should enter through Door #21 at Flag Circle or park in the small lot adjacent to the cafeteria off Panther Way and enter through Door #26.
