What's Worst About Going Back to School in Saucon Valley?

We asked readers on Facebook to tell us about their least favorite things about their kids heading "back-to-school" in the Saucon Valley.

Back-to-school can be a stressful transition time, for both parents and kids, which is why we asked Patch readers to tell us about their start-of-the-school-year woes on Facebook.

Readers' number one response was a complaint about the Saucon Valley School District calendar.

Several readers said they would prefer it if the school year began after Labor Day, instead of one week before, on Monday, Aug. 26.

Readers also complained about the need to purchase color-coded school supplies, bullying, and uncertainty over contract talks involving Saucon Valley teachers.

Below is a sampling of the responses we received. Do you agree? Or do you have a different perspective? Let us know by posting a comment.

Dawn Kent: "Getting back into the routine!"

Dianne Nickles: "School starting before Labor Day is one of the worst!! Our school board needs to change that."

Amy Campbell Musser: "Dislike starting so early. Summer goes way too fast. I love having my kids home. I am not crazy about going back to all that paperwork...way too much of it."

Sara Anders Miller: "Personal peeve is the color-coded supplies. It's not that easy to find notebooks, folders, etc. in all of the required colors. Oh, and the 'required' calculator in middle school...my kids never used them, so THAT was a great investment."

Lori Van Horn: "All the bullying at Saucon Valley."

Sharon Mcgrail-Szabo: "Worrying about whether there will be yet another teachers' strike!"
